Bananas: New Opportunity for Africa Amid Climate Change

Africa-Press – Angola. Bananas remain the most widely produced and traded fruit globally. However, exporters in regions like Latin America and the Caribbean, including Colombia, Panama, and Costa Rica, face challenges as climate conditions diminish their yields.

African countries, on the other hand, could see a significant boost, according to a study by the Dutch Rabobank group.

By 2050, countries like Côte d’Ivoire, Africa’s leading banana producer, are projected to benefit from a more favorable climate and increased yields through enhanced agricultural practices.

However, to fully capitalize on this potential, African producers must invest in disease management systems and streamline their logistics, particularly if Europe remains a major market.
