Africa-Press – Angola. The Angolan youth play a decisive role in the country’s progress and they continue to assert themselves as protagonists in the transformations that mark the country’s fifty years of National Independence.
The statement was made by the Angolan ambassador to Zimbabwe, Baltazar Cristóvão, during a commmemorative ceremony of the Angolan independence day held on Friday, in Harare.
The diplomat reminded that the youth “resisted colonial oppression, fought for and conquered national independence, secured territorial integrity and achieved peace”, further stressing that the new generation is engaged in the construction of a more developed and sustainable Angola.
According to Baltazar Cristóvão, the country is steady on the path of becoming a thriving nation, with programmes turned to the protection of the environment and strengthen the investment in the future generations, giving privilege to education, science and the juvenile potential.
The embassador informed that Angola has been making progress in its economic reforms, in fighting corruption and in the promotion of good governance, and these factors, he explained, help to consolidate the image of a modern state, open to investment, innovation and international co-operation.
He also recalled Angola’s reference role in SADC and its voice of stability in Africa, judging by its work as mediator and facilitator for peace in countries like DR Congo, Central African Republic, Uganda, Rwanda, as well as in the Sahel region, Gulf of Guinea, and Gabon.
The ceremony in the ambit of Angola’s Independence was attended by Zimbabwean government officials, with highlght on the minister of Foreign Afairs and International Trade,
