Africa-Press – Angola. The acting governor of Namibe, Abel Kapitango, defended on Monday in Moçamedes the need for the province’s various social bodies to join forces in the fight against child labor and the sexual abuse of minors.

Abel Kapitango, who was speaking during the opening ceremony of a seminar on child care and protection, promoted by the National Institute for Children (INAC), emphasized that defending the rights of children is a collective responsibility, aiming to protect children’s rights by offering them swift, humane, and effective care.

He stated that child labor constitutes a fundamental concern for the government of the province, as it deprives many minors of school and family life, and of healthy development.

For him, to address these practices, it is necessary to consolidate prevention mechanisms, reinforcing the training of technicians and community agents, as well as strengthening the network for reporting and supporting victims.

“Due to its geographical and social and economic location, the province of Namibe faces significant challenges regarding child protection. There are recorded cases of sexual violence against minors, economic exploitation of children, child abandonment and other phenomena that concern the provincial government, requiring coordinated and permanent action from everyone”, he emphasized.

During the seminar, participants addressed topics such as “procedures for handling cases of children in vulnerable situations,” “functional procedures for locating children,” as well as “family reunification.”
