Africa-Press – Angola. Four hundred of the five hundred motorcycle taxi drivers registered in Mbanza Kongo, province of Zaire, since April 27th, have already benefited from the respective driving licenses and professional licenses, awarded by the Municipal Administration.
The attribution of these documents takes place within the framework of the Mass Registration and Licensing campaign for taxi drivers and motorcycle taxi drivers, nationwide, which ends on the 15th of the current month.
Speaking this Friday, the interim municipal director of Transport, Mfuambuta João da Silva, recalled that the stipulated target is to serve 1,800 motorcycle taxi drivers, in this campaign, at the level of this municipality.
However, the person in charge fears that this figure will not be met, despite the fact that there is already a lot of adherence to the process, due to the fact that there are only two days left for its completion.
Therefore, he defended the possibility of extending the initially stipulated period, to allow more motorcycle taxi drivers to register and license, stressing that such a decision would be up to the competent structures.
Among the difficulties encountered, to date, in this campaign, the interim municipal director of Transport of Mbanza Kongo, referred to the fact that this activity is being carried out, for the most part, by trainee officials.
“Trainees are not familiar with this type of activity. Many of them are receiving incomplete processes from motorcycle taxi drivers, forcing them to be returned to their owners”, he complained.
Among the requested documents, the person in charge listed a photocopy of the Identity Card (BI) and three photographs, for registration.
He added that, for licensing, users must present the purchase and sale documents of the motorcycle (invoice, delivery note and the application certifying ownership of the means of transport, including a copy of the owner’s ID.
With this initiative by the Ministry of Transport, the aim is to keep the database up to date on the number of taxis and motorcycle taxis operating in the locality.
Formalizing the exercise of the profession, assigning licenses and professional cards to members are also among the purposes of this initiative by the Executive.
The process is being assisted by other state bodies, with emphasis on the Directorate of Roads and Traffic Planning, the National Institute of Social Security (INSS), Program for the Reconversion of the Informal Economy (PREI), among others.
For this campaign, 19 trainee technicians and senior officials from the local administration were mobilized in the city of Mbanza Kongo.
