Africa-Press – Angola. The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, returned to the country on Saturday, after participating, in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo, in the 9th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR).
During the high-level meeting, João Lourenço transferred the rotating presidency of the organization to his Congolese counterpart, Félix Antoine Tshisekedi, after the end of Angola’s mandate at the head of the ICGLR.
In his intervention, the Head of State reaffirmed Angola’s commitment to pacification, stabilization and regional cooperation efforts, having highlighted that the country did everything in its power to contribute to the resolution of conflicts and challenges that persist in the region.
The summit addressed issues related to security, natural resource governance, institutional reforms and coordination with the African Union, in addition to assessing the political and humanitarian situation in member countries.
