Africa-Press – Cape verde. Cape Verde’s Deputy Prime Minister, Olavo Correia, said today that the current situation in Venezuela, one of the world’s largest oil producers, “worries the Cape Verdean authorities.”

Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, as announced by his US counterpart, Donald Trump, was captured and forcibly removed from the country after a “large-scale attack.”

When questioned by journalists about the situation in Venezuela, Olavo Correia stressed that Cape Verde must remain vigilant and prepare to face the “increasingly challenging” contexts on the multilateral stage.

The most important thing, the official emphasized, is for the country to focus on the variables it controls and is capable of making happen.

“Everything related to fuels and energy security [worries the country],” stated the Minister of Finance, when asked about the situation in Venezuela.

Olavo Correia made these remarks at a press conference he convened to discuss the 2026 State Budget, which, according to him, marks a transition for Cape Verde towards becoming a high-income country.

He argues that the country must accelerate its energy transition agenda, that is, produce more energy through solar and wind power and, in the future, “anchored in green hydrogen.”

In his view, for Cape Verde to reach 80 percent renewable energy production, it must have the capacity to produce energy without importing fossil fuels from third-party partners.
