Uganda and Tanzania played to a 1-1 draw in their second match of the Africa Cup of Nations 2025. Tanzania took the lead with a penalty, but Uganda equalized late in the game. Both teams secured their first point in the tournament, with Tunisia leading the group after two matches. The tournament is hosted by Morocco from December 21 to January 18.
Africa. Uganda missed the chance to secure its first victory in the Africa Cup of Nations 2025, settling for a 1-1 draw against Tanzania on Saturday at the “City” stadium in Rabat, during the second round of the group stage.
Tanzania took the lead first through Simon Msuva in the 59th minute via a penalty awarded after a VAR review for a handball by Uganda’s Baba Hassan.
Uganda’s substitute, Uche Ikpeazu, managed to equalize in the 80th minute with a well-placed header following a cross from his teammate Dennis Omedi, bringing the match back to square one.
Uganda was close to clinching the win and snatching all three points when the referee awarded them a penalty in the first minute of stoppage time (90+1). However, Allan Okello missed the opportunity by sending the ball over the crossbar.
With this result, both teams earned their first point in Group C, which is led by Tunisia with 3 points, ahead of Nigeria on goal difference, before their upcoming match.
Morocco is hosting the 35th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations for the second time in its history, having previously hosted it in 1988, from December 21 to January 18, with 24 teams participating across 6 groups.
