Africa-Press. The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) announced that Sudan is now experiencing the world’s largest internal displacement crisis, with estimates of around 9.5 million people displaced across 18 states amid a conflict continuing for nearly three years.
The agency said Sudanese children are facing a worsening humanitarian emergency driven by violence, displacement, disease, and hunger, adding: “For nearly three years, Sudanese children have endured an escalating humanitarian emergency resulting from violence, displacement, disease, and widespread hunger.”
The organization confirmed it continues to work on the ground with partners to provide life-saving services to children and families affected by the crisis, including health and nutrition care, access to clean water, psychosocial support, and education.
The agency also warned that the crisis in Sudan continues to suffer from a severe lack of media coverage and a major funding shortfall, which limits the ability of humanitarian actors to respond to growing needs.
UNICEF stressed that children bear the greatest burden of the conflict, reiterating the urgent need for lasting peace and stability throughout the country.
