Africa-Press. The president of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Félix Tshisekedi, held talks with the African Union’s panel of mediators on initiatives aimed at bringing peace to the DRC and the Great Lakes region.
According to a post by the Congolese presidency on the platform X, Tshisekedi praised the African delegation’s efforts and reaffirmed his commitment to achieving a lasting and verifiable peace in the east of the country, where the region has for years faced armed conflicts and recurring humanitarian crises.
The Congolese president also stressed the importance of regional stability, pointing to the need for all parties to respect the commitments signed as part of joint efforts to end tensions.
For her part, former Ethiopian president and AU delegation member Sahle-Work Zewde emphasized the urgent need for action to end the suffering of the population, saying: “We are on a listening tour, and we will meet different parties to see what can be done for the well-being of these peoples who have suffered greatly for many long decades. Behind these crises lies humanitarian suffering that must stop.”
The African Union delegation included prominent political figures such as former Nigerian president Olusegun Obasanjo, former Ethiopian president Sahle-Work Zewde, and former Central African Republic president Catherine Samba-Panza—highlighting the importance of the tour and the backing it receives from experienced African leaders in mediation and conflict resolution.
