Africa-Press. The foreign ministers of the Sahel Alliance countries – Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger – held a meeting in Bamako to review the activities carried out since February 2026.

The meeting of the heads of diplomacy of the Sahel Alliance, which took place on June 20, aimed to continue efforts to coordinate and align actions to enhance the position of the Sahel Alliance within international organizations.

According to the foreign minister of Burkina Faso, Karamo Kone, “This meeting also represents an opportunity to discuss the continuation of dialogue with the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).”

He added, “This is also an opportunity to review current African and international events and exchange views on the best ways to provide a clear, coherent, and consistent stance for the region, in line with the vision of the three union leaders.”

For his part, the foreign minister of Niger, Bakari Yaou Sangare, stated that “the aspiration to face the security challenge has manifested in the activation of the unified union force. Security cannot be delegated.”

The diplomatic efforts of the union have achieved undeniable successes, as evidenced by the increasing presence and recognition of the union on the international stage as a major geopolitical entity.

Bakari Yaou Sangare continued, saying, “In the context of coordinating development efforts, the union countries have committed firmly to the policy alignment process aimed at bringing about a structural transformation in the economies.”

In conclusion, the foreign minister of Mali, Abdoulaye Diop, emphasized that “it is no longer necessary to remind everyone of the unprecedented media coverage received by terrorist alliances and their foreign supporters in the context of the information war, where misinformation and manipulation have replaced objectivity, and where the ethics and standards of some media outlets have unfortunately declined in the face of the public glorification of terrorism. Despite all these challenges, the union countries remain steadfast in their position.”
