Africa-Press. Uganda’s coffee exports rose by 21.7% in December compared with the same period a year earlier, driven by improved productivity levels, according to recent data released by Uganda’s Ministry of Agriculture.
CNBC Africa reported that this growth reflects the strong performance of the agricultural sector and its role in boosting national revenues. Uganda’s coffee export earnings reached about $2.5 billion in 2025, up from $1.4 billion the previous year.
According to the report, the country shipped 502,582 bags of coffee in December, with each bag weighing 60 kilograms. Over the twelve months ending in December, coffee export revenues totalled $2.5 billion, compared with $1.4 billion in the corresponding period.
The coffee sector is expected to continue playing a key role in supporting Uganda’s economy, amid government plans to increase production and improve crop quality, thereby strengthening foreign currency inflows and highlighting the importance of sustainable investment in agriculture as a core driver of economic growth.
Coffee is Uganda’s second-largest export after gold and a major source of foreign exchange, with the country maintaining its position as Africa’s leading coffee exporter.
