Africa-Press. Burkina Faso’s Prime Minister, Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo, told parliamentarians that the country’s defence and security forces have regained nearly 74% of national territory.
The statement was made during the annual session in which the head of government reviews the overall situation and outlines expectations for 2026, while responding to questions from members of parliament.
In his address, Ouédraogo presented what he described as a telling figure, confirming that 74% of the territory is now under government control. He added that “the heroic actions of our brave fighters have made it possible to reopen 73 provinces and municipalities, more than 600 educational institutions, and 38 health facilities, as well as to liberate and resettle 442 villages.” He stressed that the forces involved acted “with full respect for human life and in accordance with the highest standards of professionalism”.
The prime minister also explained that security patrols carried out in border areas and regions facing major security challenges have contributed to the return of displaced people. He noted that “joint efforts made it possible, by 31 December 2025, for 1,160,935 people to return and be resettled in 871 locations of their original areas”.
