DR Congo: Tshisekedi Backs Dialogue with Conditions

Africa-Press. Democratic Republic of the Congo President Félix Tshisekedi has reaffirmed his support for a national dialogue initiative, stressing that it must take place within the country and under the supervision of state institutions, in line with the Constitution and in order to safeguard national sovereignty. He made the remarks during a ceremony to exchange greetings with accredited members of the diplomatic corps in Kinshasa.

Tshisekedi said the dialogue should be inclusive and calm among citizens, but rejected any attempt to use it to justify “acts of aggression” or to dilute existing responsibilities. He called on the international community to take concrete steps to protect Congo’s sovereignty and support efforts to restore peace.

The president also stressed his firm refusal to engage in negotiations with those he described as “perpetrators of crimes against civilians”, asserting that justice and accountability are essential prerequisites for achieving stability.

In this context, he referred to statements by Rwandan diplomats before the US Congress acknowledging official security cooperation between Kigali and the M23 rebel movement. He said this admission places new responsibilities on the international community regarding what he described as “aggression against the Congolese people”.
