Africa-Press. The public prosecutor’s office in the Malagasy capital, Antananarivo, has requested permission to prosecute four out of nine judges from the High Constitutional Court, on charges of “conspiracy to destabilize the country.” This move comes amid rising political and judicial tensions in the nation.

This action follows just two days after the High Constitutional Court issued a ruling rejecting a request to dismiss Colonel Michael Randrianerina, head of the Restoration Party, which had been submitted by Deputy Antoine Ranjirison, accusing him of serious and repeated violations of the constitution.

According to circulating information, the public prosecutor in Antananarivo has submitted an official request to the Minister of Justice to allow for the legal pursuit of four judges from the High Constitutional Court based on these allegations.

These developments have sparked widespread reactions, as the “Generation Z” movement, known for its sharp criticism of the High Constitutional Court, expressed its astonishment at the events on social media, questioning whether some judges or senior advisors had faced pressure.

These actions come at a time when the High Constitutional Court is experiencing increasing tensions, as the National Assembly attempted to replace two of the same judges just days ago, despite not officially announcing any vacant positions within the court.

Since Colonel Michael Randrianerina assumed power, Madagascar has seen a rise in cases related to threats to state security, targeting former officials and opposition figures, as well as activists from the “Generation Z” movement. The High Constitutional Court has not issued any comment on these developments.
