Africa-Press. Turkish diplomatic sources reported that Mauritanian Foreign Minister Mohamed Salem Ould Merzoug is scheduled to visit Turkey on Wednesday to hold talks with his Turkish counterpart, Hakan Fidan.

The sources indicated that Fidan is expected to reaffirm Turkey’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations during the meeting in Ankara and emphasize the importance of implementing the decisions made during the first meeting of the Joint Economic Committee between Turkey and Mauritania, which took place in May 2025.

The Turkish Foreign Minister is also expected to discuss steps to increase the volume of trade and mutual investments between the two countries.

The conference is anticipated to highlight the potential for expanding cooperation in military and defense industries, as well as in fisheries, agriculture, and mining.

Fidan is also expected to reiterate Turkey’s support for the economic and social development of Sahel countries and efforts to combat terrorism in the region.

Merzoug previously visited Turkey in April, where he met with Fidan in Istanbul. The two ministers also held talks in Djibouti in 2024 on the sidelines of the third ministerial conference reviewing Turkish-African partnership.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan visited Mauritania in 2018, marking the first presidential visit to the West African nation.
