Africa-Press. Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially announced the timetable for the next general elections, setting 20 February 2027 for the presidential and parliamentary polls. Elections for state governors and state legislatures will be held two weeks later, on 6 March 2027.

INEC chairman Jowash Amobitan said at a press conference in Abuja that the announcement marks the official launch of the electoral process in line with the constitution and relevant laws. He noted that the terms of the president and vice president, as well as governors and their deputies, will end on 28 May 2027, and that the national legislatures will be dissolved on 8 June of the same year.

Amobitan also outlined plans to expand the use of technology in the electoral process, update the voter register, strengthen cooperation with security agencies, and intensify voter education programs. He urged political parties to comply with the set deadlines for nominations and campaigns, stressing that successful elections are a shared responsibility requiring cooperation from all stakeholders.
