Africa-Press. The United Nations has announced that more than 20,000 people have recently been displaced from the Darfur region in western Sudan due to deteriorating security conditions and escalating violence.
The Deputy Spokesperson for the Secretary-General of the United Nations stated that “humanitarian partners reported that insecurity and violence among local communities in Darfur have forced over 20,000 people to flee their homes, and many of them are in urgent need of assistance.” The spokesperson did not specify the timeframe for the displacement.
He added: “We once again call on all parties to protect civilians and facilitate the rapid, safe, unimpeded, and sustainable access of humanitarian assistance.”
Violent clashes have been reported in the three Kordofan states—North Kordofan, West Kordofan, and South Kordofan—along with Darfur and Blue Nile State, between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces since October 25, 2025.
