A local medical network reported that several individuals were killed and others injured in an attack attributed to the Rapid Support Forces in the Tamid area of North Kordofan, amid ongoing military operations in the region.
The non-governmental medical network stated in a report that a group from the Rapid Support Forces, riding motorcycles, attacked the area on Thursday evening, resulting in the deaths of four people and injuries to several others, in addition to looting residents’ properties. The network added that the attack is part of a series of assaults targeting civilians in the area, leading to fear and prompting residents to leave their homes.
The network called for an end to violations against civilians, urging the international community and regional parties to exert pressure to halt the attacks and hold those responsible accountable. Meanwhile, there has been no immediate comment from the Rapid Support Forces regarding the accusations made by the local medical network.
This attack comes at a time when North Kordofan is witnessing ongoing battles between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces, as both sides attempt to control strategic cities and roads linking central Sudan to the Darfur region. In recent days, the Sudanese army and its allied forces announced the recapture of Bara, Jabra Sheikh, and Um Sayala, along with other areas in North Kordofan, while the Rapid Support Forces declared that fighting would continue without a definitive resolution over some locations.
The Bara-Al-Obeid axis holds military significance due to its connection to the export route, which is one of the main supply lines between Khartoum and North Kordofan, extending towards the west of the country. The United Nations warns of a deteriorating humanitarian situation in North Kordofan as battles and drone attacks escalate, with confrontations in recent months leading to new waves of displacement and shortages of water and essential services.
Kordofan has become one of the prominent battlefields due to its strategic location between areas controlled by the Sudanese army in central and eastern Sudan and areas under the influence of the Rapid Support Forces in Darfur.
