The discussions also covered projects in energy and infrastructure, including enhancing the railway connection between the two countries, as well as social and educational initiatives, such as expanding the Algerian-Nigerian Friendship Secondary School in the Zinder region and establishing health and training centers in various areas.
The official meetings addressed the regional situation in the Sahel, with both sides emphasizing the importance of dialogue and coordination to tackle security challenges. The officials stressed the necessity of respecting national sovereignty and avoiding military interventions in crisis resolution, referring to the stances that emerged following the political developments in Niger over the past year.
Tiani arrived in Algeria for a two-day official visit, focusing on political and economic cooperation between the two countries. This visit also comes in the context of warming bilateral relations after a period of diplomatic tension, following the simultaneous return of the ambassadors of both countries last week, after a mutual reduction in diplomatic representation since April 2025. This reduction followed the announcement by Niger, Burkina Faso, and Mali, part of the “Sahel Alliance,” to withdraw their ambassadors from Algeria for consultations, after Bamako accused Algeria of downing one of its drones, prompting Algeria to respond in kind.
