The Council affirmed that “terrorism in all its forms poses one of the gravest threats to international peace and security,” urging member states to fulfill their obligations under international law and Security Council resolutions by effectively cooperating with the Nigerian government to pursue the perpetrators, organizers, and financiers and bring them to justice.
The Council stressed the need to “hold accountable the perpetrators, organizers, financiers, and sponsors of these heinous terrorist acts and bring them to justice,” urging all UN member states “in accordance with their obligations under international law and relevant Security Council resolutions, to actively cooperate with the Nigerian government in this regard.”
The statement added, “Council members reiterated that any acts of terrorism are criminal and unjustifiable, regardless of their motivations, wherever and whenever they are committed.”
It is noted that the attack took place in rural areas of Kwara State, where local authorities reported that armed assailants attacked two villages, firing on residents and setting homes and shops ablaze, leading to the flight of locals to surrounding areas.
