Africa. Moroccan taekwondo athlete Amina Dahhawi has won the gold medal in the under 57 kg category during the second day of the World Taekwondo Championship for under 21s, held in Nairobi, Kenya, from December 3 to 6.
This victory was achieved thanks to Dahhawi’s impressive performance, as she successively defeated Brazilian Rocha Liz in the round of 16 (2-0), Polish Liszka Nikola in the quarter-finals (2-0), and Iranian Mohammadi Hasti in the semi-finals (2-0), before overcoming Spanish Carla Cesar in the final with a score of two rounds to none.
With this win, Morocco’s medal tally has risen to three, following two bronze medals earned by Nuzha Assal (under 49 kg) and Iman Khiyari (over 73 kg) on Wednesday.
On the second day of competition, Turkish athlete Sudi Yarin Ozungvdar claimed gold in the women’s under 73 kg category, showcasing her dominance in this division, while Haitian Ava Son Li took home the silver medal, and Russian Polina Shvidkova secured the bronze.
In the men’s under 63 kg category, Turkish Hamza Osman Aydogan won the gold medal, with Bulgarian Stanislav Mitkov taking silver, and Indian Nitish Singh completing the podium with bronze.
In a statement to a local source, the head of the Moroccan delegation at the World Championship for under 21s in Kenya, Abdel Haq Mujahid, confirmed that this event is a significant international gathering, featuring participants from around 100 countries, including experienced nations such as Iran, Korea, Kazakhstan, and Turkey.
Mujahid, who is also a member of the Royal Moroccan Taekwondo Federation, added that the results achieved reflect the competitive level of the national team and the great potential of its young athletes, making this championship a crucial step in preparing for upcoming Olympic and international challenges.
He also expressed satisfaction with the results from the first day, which saw the two bronze medals won by Nuzha Assal and Iman Khiyari, who competed against prominent names on the global stage, while praising Amina Dahhawi’s exceptional performance, which demonstrated high technical skill and remarkable control.
This inaugural edition of the World Championship for under 21s features strong participation from leading countries in this sport, including Korea, Russia, China, France, and Iran, reflecting the significance of the achievement by the national team.
