Africa. Morocco leads the list of contenders for the title in the current edition of the Africa Cup of Nations following the conclusion of the Round of 16 matches.
Ivory Coast completed the lineup of teams advancing to the quarterfinals after a significant victory over Burkina Faso (3-0) in the last match of the Round of 16.
According to the Opta supercomputer, Morocco, the host nation, has the highest chances of winning the title, with a probability of 22.74%, aiming for their second historical title in the Africa Cup of Nations.
The “Atlas Lions” reached the quarterfinals after a tough victory against Tanzania, with a single goal scored by Real Madrid star Ibrahim Diaz in the second half.
Senegal, the champion of the previous edition, which overcame Sudan in the Round of 16, ranks second among the favorites with a probability of 16.98%.
Algeria, which struggled before securing a win against the Democratic Republic of Congo (1-0) and exited the group stage in the last two editions, comes in third.
However, the path for the “Desert Warriors” to the title will not be easy, as they will face the strong Nigerian team in the next round, which ranks fourth among the title contenders according to Opta.
Egypt, the record holder for the most titles (seven), is in fifth place, while the defending champion Ivory Coast is sixth, with both teams set to clash in the next round.
According to Opta, the last two teams on the list, Cameroon and Mali, are considered the “least likely” to win, as stated by RMC Sport.
