Al-Burhan Rejects Peace with Killers and Looters in Sudan

Africa-Press. Sudan’s Sovereignty Council chairman and commander-in-chief of the armed forces, General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, said there will be no peace with those who killed, looted, and displaced Sudanese. He made the remarks in a public speech in Al-Jazira State attended by residents, farmers, and leaders of Sufi orders.

Regarding peace with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), al-Burhan asked, in a dismissive tone, what value any negotiations would have with a party that carried out killing, looting, and displacement against citizens. He firmly rejected the idea of returning to the negotiating table with those he described as the enemy, arguing that any return would mean repeating the same tragedy.

He issued an open appeal to those he described as “misled” armed men fighting alongside the RSF, urging them to hand over their weapons and return to their country. He said the door to pardon remains open for them, that the country is theirs, and that they should abandon those leading them toward destruction.

Al-Burhan also highlighted what he called full popular support for the armed forces, saying the Sudanese people as a whole stand behind the army. He singled out the leaders and sheikhs of Sufi orders, describing them as a pillar of the country through their prayers and their constant support for the military institution.

On Tuesday, al-Burhan said the armed forces would reach any place in Sudan, shortly after announcing the opening of the road to Kadugli, the capital of South Kordofan State in the south, and the lifting of the siege after fighting with the RSF.

Since April 2023, the Sudanese army and the RSF have been fighting amid disagreements over unifying the military establishment, triggering one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises. The war, which began nearly three years ago, has killed tens of thousands and displaced 11 million people.
