Africa. The presidential campaign for candidate Mamadi Doumbouya officially began in the Guinean capital, Conakry, with the opening of the Republican Gathering’s political headquarters, a coalition that includes various movements supporting the military council president’s candidacy for the elections scheduled for December 28, 2025.
The opening of the headquarters was a vibrant political scene, attended by local leaders, activists, supporters, and volunteers who gathered to assess the atmosphere in the early hours of the campaign.
Shortly after four in the afternoon, the new headquarters was crowded with attendees who came to show their support for the candidate. Members of the Republican Gathering coalition confirmed that this crowd represents the first large-scale mobilization for Doumbouya since he announced his candidacy, noting that their significant presence in the thirteen districts of the capital aims to convey a clear message: “Mamadi Doumbouya is the best choice to lead Guinea in the coming years, considering his achievements over the past four years.”
Amid the enthusiasm, questions arose regarding the absence of prominent opposition figures from the political scene. Political activist Mamadou Saliou Diallo sarcastically remarked that Doumbouya’s competitors “were not fortunate” in securing their nominations, adding that the general’s supporters should not feel concerned: “He is a reformer who calls for peace and fights injustice, which is why we support him.”
In a related context, the organized Republican Gathering, which is spread across various municipalities in Conakry, announced its full readiness to engage in the electoral mobilization battle.
One of its representatives explained that the coalition was prepared in advance to be a “mobilization force and propose solutions,” emphasizing that they are only waiting for a signal from Doumbouya’s campaign leadership to launch a broad mobilization, affirming: “We are fully working under the candidate’s leadership and respond immediately to his calls.”
Doumbouya is competing in the presidential race against eight other candidates in an election expected to be decisive for the country’s future. The election results are set to be announced immediately after the voting concludes on December 28.
With this launch, it seems that the Republican Gathering aims to showcase a clear political strength, using the new headquarters as a focal point for a campaign that targets coverage across the country, leading up to the decisive election day.
Guinea has experienced significant political changes in recent years, particularly following the military coup in September 2021 that brought Mamadi Doumbouya to power.
