Africa-Press. The Egyptian president, Abdel Fattah Sisi, alongside the French president, Emmanuel Macron, inaugurated the new headquarters of Senghor University in New Borg El Arab City, in the presence of African and international officials. This step reflects a commitment to enhancing academic and developmental cooperation between Egypt, African countries, and the Francophone space.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by the Prime Minister of Burundi, the Secretary-General of the International Organization of La Francophonie, as well as officials from the African Union and several African countries.
In his speech, Sisi stated that the opening of the new headquarters comes at a “critical moment” where developmental challenges are increasing, necessitating international partnerships based on solidarity and integration, particularly among southern countries. He noted that Egypt views the International Organization of La Francophonie as a multilateral framework that enhances cultural dialogue, education, and development, emphasizing that Cairo has been keen to support Francophone cooperation since joining the organization, alongside its partnerships with northern countries.
The Egyptian president praised the French role in supporting Senghor University and the Francophone world, expressing appreciation for what he described as “Paris’s support” in preparing African cadres through scholarships and knowledge transfer.
Sisi stressed that strengthening Egyptian-African relations represents a “fundamental pillar” of Egyptian foreign policy, stemming from a “shared destiny” with the countries of the continent, affirming Cairo’s continued support for development efforts and capacity building in Africa.
Senghor University is one of the prominent Francophone academic institutions in Africa, based in Egypt, focusing on preparing cadres in the fields of management, development, and public policy.
